Today's first update
We have returned from today's first visit to the hospital. So it is time for some updates!
First off: They have Mom's name wrong in their system. They are trying to fix it BUT the important information you guys need is that she is at the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, Unit 9300, Bed 2. If you send or address anything to her that way, it should make it. Currently, the computer has her name spelled Shellener but they are tryting to update that...
Second: Still having trouble with the picture uploads but very close. Should be up today something.
And now for the non-logistical update:
Mom was fairly unchanged today from yesterday- we haven't spoken to her primary doctor yet as he had to go into another emergency surgery. But we hope to do that yet today.
She does seem to still be on target for getting the chest tube pulled today and her RT (respiratory therapist) says he thinks she will come off the vent tomorrow. That may still change as her condition does though. Her temperature is back down to a more normal level, which is very exciting for us all. The CT of her head did not get repeated last night because of other emergencies but is still in the queue.
In biggest news, while Brian and Roland were visiting with Mom today, she opened her eyes a little and squeezed Roland's hand when he asked her to. She was definitely more agitated today but they have been trying to back off her sedation. We have music playing in her room now, and the nurses have been excellent at keeping the CDs playing. In addition, we took off her bandage on her good leg (it is there to help prevent clot formation) and did some massage and PROM (passive range of motion) to get some venous return and limit itchiness and swelling of the leg and foot. She seemed to benefit from that and we will probably try to do that again tonight.
Pam's face is looking a bit better with less swelling of her cheek and eyes. This will hopefully continue and make it easier for her to open and close her eyes as she continues to progress.
That is all for now but once again I would like to stress from ALL of us how very very much your comments, calls and support means to us. There is not enough time to reply individually but know we are getting and sharing your messages with Pam and each other.
Love you very much- jacqui

Jacqui:
Thanks again for the update -- we all check the site several times a day hoping for some good news. I'm so glad that she continues to respond. Please tell Pam that I miss her and am thinking about her all the time.
Kelly should be there soon and may have already arrived. I know that she will be a big help to Pam and Roland... It's amazing how busy it is when you have someone in the hospital and how much there is to do. Thanks for taking the time to keep in touch...debora
